PHILANTHROPY
Make-A-Wish
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a philanthropy that all Chi Omega chapters share.
Established in April 1980, the Make‑A‑Wish Foundation began when a community in Phoenix helped grant the wish of 7‑year‑old Christopher Greicius, who dreamed of becoming a police officer. From that first wish, the organization’s guiding mission was born: to bring hope, strength, and joy to children facing life-threatening medical conditions. Working alongside such an extraordinary foundation has been a privilege for our chapter. Our fundraising efforts—like Run for Wishes and the Chi O Cook-off—allow kids the chance to build joyful memories with loved ones.
A wish granted not only provides hope, strength, and joy to a child and their family, but it can provide a wish child with the ability and willingness to comply with difficult medical treatments, and the hope gained by that wish often improves a child’s physical health.
Since partnering with Make-A-Wish in 2002, Chi Omega chapters around the country have donated over $37 million and volunteered more than 1.5 million hours. So far, our chapter has donated over $600,000 to the Make a Wish Foundation and $48,000 in the past year! We have been able to successfully fundraise to grant wishes for Make-A-Wish South Carolina through philanthropy events such as Run for Wishes and our annual Chi O Cookoff! We’re honored by the difference Make‑A‑Wish brings to families and grateful for the chance to serve such a meaningful cause.
XOXO,
Chi Omega Eta Gamma
